Football Community Mourns Alex Hughes

Alex Hughes, the son of renowned Welsh football figure Mark Hughes, has passed away at the age of 38. His father, Mark Hughes, expressed profound sadness over the unexpected loss of his son.

A Career in Football

Alex Hughes had a career deeply rooted in football, initially as a player for clubs such as Stockport County and Wrexham. Following his playing days, he transitioned into player analysis and recruitment, a field where he made significant contributions.

His professional journey included roles at several prominent clubs, including Blackburn, Manchester City, and Fulham, all of which were managed by his father at various times. He also led a private football academy in Portugal before working as a player agent. In recent years, Hughes contributed to non-league clubs AFC Fylde and Morecambe, eventually becoming the player recruitment lead at League Two club Grimsby Town in July of last year.

Family's Heartfelt Tribute

Mark Hughes, a former striker for Manchester United, Chelsea, and Wales, and a manager of the Welsh national team from 1999 to 2004, released a statement through the League Managers Association.

"Jill and I are totally heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son Alex," the 62-year-old stated. "Alex was a wonderful son, brother to Curtis and Xenna, devoted husband and father to Jessica and their two beautiful children Sebastian and Leonardo. Alex had many good friends and colleagues. He will be so deeply missed by us all."
