Australian Federal Police Investigate National Press Club Banner Incident During Hanson Speech

Investigation Launched Into National Press Club Protest

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have initiated an investigation into a protest that took place during a speech delivered by Pauline Hanson at the National Press Club. The incident involved a banner display, for which the political activist organization GetUp has asserted responsibility.

National Press Club Refers Incident to Authorities

On Wednesday afternoon, the National Press Club issued a statement confirming that it had referred the matter to the police. This decision followed an internal review which concluded that no club staff members were involved in the protest stunt.

GetUp stated, "we thought the occasion deserved some honesty," in claiming responsibility for the banner.

The nature of the banner's message and the specifics of the protest are now subject to the AFP's inquiry.
