Konate Moves to Real Madrid
Real Madrid has reportedly reached an agreement to sign French international defender Ibrahima Konate. The 27-year-old center-back will join the Spanish giants on a four-year contract, effective when his current deal with Liverpool concludes at the end of June.
Konate's departure from Liverpool comes as a free transfer, as the player and the club were unable to come to terms on a new contract, reportedly due to differences regarding his valuation and salary expectations.
Contract Details and Previous Career
Real Madrid confirmed that the agreement with Konate will see him as a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons, with the contract running until June 30, 2030. Konate, who is currently part of France's squad for the 2026 World Cup, originally moved to Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for a fee of £35 million, signing a five-year deal at the time.
During his tenure at Anfield, Konate made 183 appearances across all competitions. He contributed to the team's success, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
Konate recently expressed his regret, stating he was "deeply saddened that I didn't get the chance to say goodbye" to the Liverpool supporters during the Reds' final Premier League match of the season on May 24. He added, "At that moment, I didn't know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you."
Recent Signings for Real Madrid
Konate's arrival at Real Madrid follows the recent appointment of Jose Mourinho for his second spell as manager. He joins other notable summer acquisitions for the Bernabéu side, including Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella.
Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, 31, also joins Real Madrid on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City. Additionally, Spanish defender Marc Cucurella has been signed from Chelsea in a deal valued at £52 million. These signings aim to bolster a Real Madrid squad that did not secure a trophy last season.
