Individual Charged in Connection with Golders Green Memorial Fire

Individual Charged in Connection with Golders Green Memorial Fire

Suspect Accused of Arson at North London Memorial

A man has been formally charged in relation to a suspected arson incident at a memorial wall located in Golders Green, North London. Ali Fallahi, 45, from Ilford, faces an accusation of initiating a fire at the Limes Avenue site on April 27.

The incident prompted an inquiry by counter-terrorism authorities. Fallahi has been charged with arson and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Details of the Incident and Memorial

It is alleged that Fallahi caused damage to a memorial cabinet associated with the Miga Rally community group. This cabinet was situated next to a wall commemorating thousands of protestors who died during a crackdown in Iran in January. A specific segment of the wall also pays tribute to victims of the Hamas attack at the Nova music festival in Israel in 2023.

The fire, which reportedly began around 00:15 BST, was quickly detected and extinguished by the community group, preventing it from spreading to the memorial wall itself. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that Fallahi holds dual British and Iranian nationality.

Commander Helen Flanagan, who heads counter-terrorism policing in London, stated: "This charge marks another step forward in one of the investigations into the series of arson attacks targeting the Jewish community and Iranian diaspora in London. We are determined to bring everyone involved in these incidents to justice."

Community Response

Following the event, the Miga Rally group issued a statement emphasizing the significance of the site: "The memorial wall is a peaceful place of remembrance, documenting lives lost and ensuring victims are not forgotten. Any attempt to damage or desecrate such a site is deeply troubling and an attack on the values of remembrance, dignity and community cohesion. We hope those responsible will be identified and held accountable."
