Thunderstorms Bring Disruption to Europe
Last week, severe thunderstorms brought considerable damage and disruption to several regions across the Balkans. These powerful weather events were triggered by the interaction of an unstable mass of hot air positioned over the Adriatic Sea with a cold front that moved south-eastward.
Slovenia Experiences High Winds and Heavy Rain
The cold front's progression began on June 10, impacting Slovenia significantly. The Slovenian Environment Agency documented wind gusts reaching speeds of 65 mph at Ljubljana airport. Additionally, the region experienced substantial rainfall, with 23mm recorded in Kranj, contributing to the widespread effects of the storms.
Atypical Heat in France
