London Marathon Announces Expansion
The prestigious London Marathon is set to undergo a significant expansion, transforming into a two-day event starting in 2027. This change aims to allow a record 100,000 participants to take part in the iconic race, which will be held on April 24th and 25th.
Increased Participation and Charitable Giving
The move is anticipated to generate tens of millions more for various charities, building on the event's long-standing tradition of philanthropic contributions. The opportunity for a larger number of runners to participate is expected to be well-received, particularly by the substantial pool of applicants.
Despite the expansion, the odds of securing a place in the marathon will remain competitive. Over 1.3 million individuals have previously applied through the ballot system, and even with the increased capacity, the likelihood of being selected is projected to stay below 10%.
