Public Safety Incident in Edinburgh
Four people received hospital treatment after a man, who was reportedly bare-chested and carrying a large weapon, was observed in various locations across Edinburgh. The individual was seen in multiple incidents that caused concern among the public.
Details of the Incidents
Footage circulated on social media depicted a man, believed to be the same individual, striking the secured door of a pizzeria on Leith Walk on Friday evening. Staff at the establishment promptly lowered electronic shutters as the man repeatedly hit the door with the weapon before departing the scene. Members of the public were seen fleeing the area during this event.
Further social media clips appeared to show the same man causing disturbances at different sites. One video captured a man inside a petrol station kiosk, where he was seen knocking over shelves and scattering items. Another incident involved a topless man with a weapon approaching a vehicle that had stopped at a junction nearby.
The condition of the four individuals who were hospitalized has not been disclosed by authorities.
Police Response and Investigation
Police confirmed an arrest had been made in connection with the incidents and reassured the public that there was no further risk. Investigations into the matter are ongoing. Another video showed a significant police presence and a cordon around a property, where paramedics were attending to a clothed man on the ground with his arm in a sling. In a separate recording, an officer was seen restraining a topless man on the ground, who was heard making exclamations about "protecting the country."
