Airbus is set to conduct inspections on 16 of its A380 aircraft, with five requiring immediate examination, after the detection of cracks in a crucial structural beam within the wings. The affected planes are part of the fleets of Emirates and Qantas airlines.
European Aviation Authority Mandates Inspections
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued a directive for these urgent inspections. This order mandates that airlines thoroughly examine the wing-spar structure on specific A380 jets. The requirement for these checks arose after maintenance crews discovered cracks during routine inspection procedures.
