Watchdog Imposes Sanctions on King & King
The UK's accounting regulatory body has imposed substantial penalties and temporary restrictions on a small audit firm, King & King, and its managing partner, Milankumar Patel. The sanctions stem from "egregious" failures and "widespread deficiencies" discovered during audits of several entities within Sanjeev Gupta's metals empire.
Financial Penalties and Restrictions
Following a four-year inquiry, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) levied a combined fine of £378,184 against King & King and Mr. Patel. In addition to the monetary penalty, the firm received a "severe reprimand" and faces significant limitations on its ability to conduct future audit work. The FRC highlighted the firm's failure "to identify clear self-interest" in its auditing practices.
