Australian Parliament Reconvenes to Address Key Reforms; Anti-Corruption Commission Seeks New Leadership

Parliament Returns Amidst Reform Debates

The Australian Parliament has resumed its sittings in Canberra for a crucial two-week period before the winter recess. Lawmakers are set to deliberate on a range of significant legislative changes, particularly concerning tax policies and reforms to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

National Anti-Corruption Commission Seeks New Commissioners

In a separate development, the Attorney-General, Michelle Rowland, has initiated the search for new leadership at the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). This follows the resignation of Paul Brereton from his position. The government has affirmed its dedication to bolstering the NACC's capabilities, emphasizing a commitment to an open, competitive, and merit-based selection process for these appointments.

“This is an opportunity for the Nacc to refresh and reset, and I look forward to working across the Parliament to appoint the best possible candidates for these roles,” stated Attorney-General Michelle Rowland.

The government aims to ensure the NACC continues to operate effectively with strong, independent leadership.
