Fatal Paragliding Accident Reported in Northeastern Spain

A British national, aged 63, has died after a paragliding accident occurred in the northeastern Spanish region of Catalonia. The incident was reported to emergency services around 13:30 local time (14:30 BST) on Wednesday.

Details of the Incident

The accident took place in the Palau de Noguera area, which is situated close to the town of Tremp. Rescuers located the man with severe injuries and provided initial medical assistance. Despite the efforts of medical teams that subsequently arrived at the scene, the individual later succumbed to his injuries.

The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing support to the family of the deceased British man.

Location Popular Among Air Sports Enthusiasts

Palau de Noguera is located near Àger, an area renowned among paragliding and hang-gliding communities. This region, positioned on the fringes of the Pyrenees in northeastern Spain, attracts many participants in these aerial sports.

Local media outlets have suggested that the man may have become entangled in power lines before impacting the ground. However, official sources have not yet confirmed the precise cause of the accident.

The Catalan government confirmed that three fire brigades and two medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Additionally, the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's primary police force, deployed five teams from their citizen security and investigation units to manage the situation. Authorities are reportedly in the process of notifying the man's family through British consular channels.
