Clinician Reported Birthkeeper to Police on Day of Wellness Influencer's Death

Concerns Raised Over Home Birth Practices

During an inquest into the death of a Melbourne wellness influencer, it was revealed that a senior clinician contacted police regarding a birthkeeper on the very day the influencer passed away. This action, described by the clinician as unprecedented for him, stemmed from concerns for public health and safety, even though there was no legal requirement to report the matter to law enforcement.

Inquest Details Death of Stacey Warnecke

The information emerged on the third day of the inquest examining the death of 30-year-old Stacey Warnecke. Ms. Warnecke, a wellness influencer, died on September 29 at Frankston Hospital in Melbourne after giving birth at home. She had reportedly paid Emily Lal $6,000 for support in a 'freebirth' – a birth without the presence of any clinically trained medical personnel.

The ongoing inquest is investigating the circumstances surrounding Ms. Warnecke's death, shedding light on the practices of birthkeepers and the concerns raised by healthcare professionals regarding unsupervised home births.
