China Grapples with Severe Weather Aftermath
Intense storms have swept across parts of China, leading to at least 15 deaths and leaving many more injured. The severe weather events, which include tornadoes and landslides, have also necessitated the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents. In response to the escalating crisis, Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the need for comprehensive and vigorous rescue operations.
Impact in Hubei Province and Beyond
The central province of Hubei has been particularly affected, reporting at least 11 fatalities and 331 injuries due to thunderstorms and strong winds. State news agency Xinhua described the conditions in Hubei as "severe convective weather." Additionally, reports from late Monday indicated the occurrence of tornadoes in other regions of the country. The ongoing situation includes concerns for 16 individuals who remain buried following a landslide in western China, as rescue efforts continue.
