Didier Deschamps Departs France Squad Following Mother's Passing

France Coach Didier Deschamps Returns Home Due to Family Bereavement

Didier Deschamps, the head coach of the French national football team, has left the squad to return to France following the death of his mother. The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed the news, stating that Deschamps will miss the team's final group stage match in the ongoing World Cup.

The 57-year-old coach was informed of his mother's passing on Tuesday morning. FFF president Philippe Diallo has granted him permission to travel back to France to attend the funeral services.

Assistant Coach to Lead Team Against Norway

In Deschamps' absence, assistant coach Guy Stephan will assume responsibility for the squad. France is scheduled to play Norway on Friday in Boston. This match will determine the winner of Group I, although France has already secured its place in the knockout stages of the tournament.

The French team has performed strongly in their initial games, securing victories against Senegal and Iraq. They defeated Senegal 3-1 in New Jersey and followed it with a 3-0 win over Iraq in Philadelphia, a match that included a two-hour weather delay.

Deschamps' Illustrious Career

Didier Deschamps has a distinguished history with French football, both as a player and a manager. As captain, he led France to a World Cup victory in 1998 and a European Championship title in 2000. He took over as manager of the national side in 2012, guiding them to a World Cup triumph in Russia in 2018 and reaching the final in 2022, where they were defeated by Argentina.
