Owner Details Pet's Injuries After Grooming Session
Tegan Williams, 20, has reported that her two-year-old toy poodle and bichon frisé cross, Honey, suffered several injuries following an appointment at Scruffy 2 Fluffy groomers in Bargoed, Caerphilly county. According to Ms. Williams, a subsequent emergency veterinary visit revealed a wound on Honey's nipple that appeared to have been treated with "some sort of superglue."
The incident reportedly occurred on June 15, during what was Honey's fourth visit to the grooming establishment. Ms. Williams stated that she later discovered blood in Honey's eye, a cut on her right hind leg, and a hardened, sensitive nipple on her abdomen.
Emergency Vet Visit and Alleged Superglue Application
Concerned by Honey's condition, Ms. Williams took her pet to an out-of-hours veterinary clinic in Swansea, incurring a cost of approximately £385. She explained that this expense had to be drawn from funds saved for rent and her daughter's upcoming birthday. Ms. Williams recounted her distress, stating, "I was so upset, I was panicking, I was scared."
According to Ms. Williams, the veterinarian provided eye drops for Honey and deemed the leg cut minor. However, she claims the vet informed her that the nipple injury had been superglued, making it difficult to fully assess the damage without causing further discomfort to the dog. Ms. Williams expressed concern about potential infection due to leakage from the wound, noting that Honey remained nervous a week after the incident.
Groomer Responds to Allegations
Paul Smith, the owner of Scruffy 2 Fluffy, acknowledged the incident as "an accident." He stated that he was only made aware of the injuries when Ms. Williams complained the day after the grooming session. Mr. Smith claimed he apologized to Ms. Williams and her partner and immediately took action by informing the groomer involved that they were "not welcome back here." He also confirmed that he reimbursed Ms. Williams for the veterinary fees.
Mr. Smith explained that the grooming industry in the UK is unregulated, but he expects groomers operating at his facility to have their own insurance. He suggested the groomer involved was "too embarrassed to mention" the incident, reiterating that it was an accident and not an intentional act.
Ongoing Investigation
Ms. Williams has reported Scruffy 2 Fluffy to Trading Standards at Caerphilly council. The council confirmed it is "aware of the allegations and currently investigating them" but declined to provide further comment due to the ongoing nature of the inquiry. Ms. Williams expressed her hope that other pet owners would not experience a similar situation, stating, "I don't think I'll ever trust a dog groomer now, to be honest."
