Tragic Drownings Reported During Heatwave
As a record-breaking heatwave grips much of Europe, France has reported a significant increase in drownings. According to Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, 40 people have tragically lost their lives while swimming in unsupervised locations since June 18. Lecornu highlighted the severity of the situation on Tuesday, stating, “There is a tragic scourge of drownings.” He further noted that a majority of the victims were young people, emphasizing the risks associated with seeking relief from the extreme temperatures in unmonitored waters.
