Federal Judge Halts Trump Administration's Mail-In Voting Restrictions

Court Blocks Executive Order on Mail-In Ballots

A federal judge in Boston issued a ruling on Thursday that halted the Trump administration's initiative to limit mail-in voting. The executive order, signed by Donald Trump on March 31, aimed to deny mail-in ballots to states that did not provide their voter rolls to federal authorities.

Constitutional Concerns Raised

US District Judge Indira Talwani determined that certain provisions within the executive order were unconstitutional. Specifically, these provisions mandated that the postal service implement a barcode tracking system for ballot envelopes, which would be linked to data from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

This decision comes as the Republican administration has been actively pursuing changes to voting regulations in anticipation of upcoming midterm elections.
