Allegations Surface in Federal Court
Mining giant Fortescue is currently confronting a class action lawsuit initiated by a group of its female employees. The legal action, lodged in the federal court in Victoria on Thursday, centers on claims of pervasive sexual harassment, violence, and retaliatory actions reportedly occurring at the company's isolated iron ore mining facilities.
Specific Incidents Highlighted
Among the allegations detailed in the lawsuit are several disturbing incidents. One woman recounted finding a man present in her accommodation room at a fly-in, fly-out site in Western Australia. Another claimant described being 'howled' at by male colleagues. A particularly serious accusation involves a woman who claims she was pulled into a dark alley where a man allegedly 'tried to stick my tongue down my throat'. These accounts are part of a broader complaint against the company, founded by Andrew Forrest, regarding the working environment for its female staff.
