Concerns Mount Over Detained Doctor's Condition
A leading physician from Gaza is reportedly in a severely deteriorated state of health following 18 months in Israeli detention. His lawyer has expressed significant concerns, stating the doctor is almost unrecognizable due to injuries and faces a "tangible danger to his life." The individual, identified as Hussam Abu Safiya, has been held without formal charges or a trial.
Lawyer Details Doctor's Health Post-Transfer
According to his legal representative, Nasser Odeh, Abu Safiya's condition was alarming during their meeting on July 2. This meeting occurred after Abu Safiya's transfer in late June to Rakefet prison, an underground facility in Israel. Odeh noted that Abu Safiya exhibited significant difficulty with continuous breathing and speaking, appeared extremely weak, struggled to maintain an upright sitting position, and seemed to be on the verge of losing consciousness multiple times.
