Anticipated Surge in Demand
Great Britain's electricity grid operator, Neso (National Energy System Operator), has taken the rare step of issuing a summer power supply warning. The alert, released late on Tuesday, pertains to Wednesday evening as the country anticipates a more intense heatwave, which is expected to strain the national energy infrastructure.
Call for Additional Power
In response to the anticipated pressure, Neso has issued an electricity margin notice. This directive requests power plant operators to make any additional electricity available to the grid. The measure is being taken as the margin between the available electricity supply and the projected demand is narrowing, largely due to households increasing their use of fans and air conditioning units to combat the rising temperatures.
