Quarantine Lifted for Hantavirus-Exposed Individuals
Eight American citizens, who had been under a mandatory 42-day quarantine in Nebraska, were released on Monday. Their isolation was a precautionary measure after they were exposed to a fatal hantavirus outbreak. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed the conclusion of the required isolation period for this group.
Background of the Quarantine
These individuals were among several dozen people evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship in the Canary Islands in early May. The enforced quarantine was deemed essential by the US health department to safeguard public health, given the serious nature of hantavirus.
