Harry Kane Recalls 'Wonderwall' Singalong as a Top England Moment

Kane Cherishes Post-Match Fan Connection

England football captain Harry Kane has highlighted the spontaneous rendition of Oasis's 'Wonderwall' with supporters following England's 4-2 win against Croatia as one of his most memorable moments while representing his country. The victory marked a strong start to England's World Cup campaign.

After scoring two goals in the Dallas match, Kane and his teammates joined the enthusiastic England fans at Dallas Stadium in a singalong of the iconic 1995 hit. Speaking on the 'Lions' Den' podcast, Kane reflected on the experience:

"That was one of my favourite ever moments in an England shirt and especially at a major tournament. I know it's just the first game and we're not getting carried away, but just that emotional connection with the fans... We know how much it means to them. We have that connection right now but just that moment, singing Wonderwall in the stadium... Everyone knew the words and that was a really special moment."

Continuing the Fan-Squad Bond

Current England manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed his commitment to building upon the strong rapport between the national squad and its fanbase, a legacy established by former boss Gareth Southgate. Under Southgate's tenure, England achieved significant success, reaching the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 and the European Championship finals in both 2021 and 2024, which significantly boosted fan engagement.

Kane, aged 32, is one of three players, alongside goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and defender John Stones, who remain from the 2018 World Cup squad. His two goals against Croatia saw him draw level with Gary Lineker's record of 10 World Cup goals.

A Fresh Perspective in the Squad

The veteran striker noted a "freshness" within the current squad under Tuchel. He elaborated on the evolving dynamics:

"This one feels a little bit different. Our roles have changed a little bit obviously, being the more experienced guys, the older guys. There's a freshness about it, where you can really see a hunger, a desire and excitement from the players in the team just to kind of be part of what could be obviously a special summer."

Kane also highlighted the positive atmosphere and healthy competition among the players:

"You see us around the place, everyone getting on, everyone being with each other, spending time together, but also you see it in training - the way we train, the intensity we train at the competition for places, but there's no anger towards your competition. It is literally, let's just compete for the place and whoever plays will play and I'll be ready to come on and make a difference when I get my turn."

England's next Group L fixture is scheduled against Ghana in Boston on Tuesday at 21:00 BST.
