Police Release Images of Embezzled Goods
Dozens of new images have been made public, depicting items purchased by Peter Murrell with funds embezzled from the Scottish National Party (SNP). These photographs, captured by Police Scotland during its extensive investigation, were shared by prosecutors after the conclusion of the case that led to Murrell's more than five-year prison sentence.
Details of the Acquired Items
Among the newly released images are photographs of a motorhome, valued at £124,550, which was reportedly parked outside the residence of Murrell's mother at the time. The collection also includes pictures of luxury bags, watches, and pens that Murrell unlawfully acquired. Many of these images were taken inside the home Murrell, 61, shared with his estranged wife, former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Murrell embezzled a total of £400,000 from the SNP over a 12-year period. This money was used to procure over 1,000 items, including various pieces of jewelry, cosmetics, and two vehicles. While only a portion of the embezzled goods that formed part of the final charges admitted by the former SNP chief executive have been recovered, these retrieved items were thoroughly documented by investigators.
Previous and Recent Image Releases
Initially, five police images were released to the media by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) when Murrell confessed to his crimes last month. An additional 50 of these police photographs have now been published by the Crown Office. The pictures were captured at multiple locations, including the former Glasgow residence of Murrell and Sturgeon, which was subject to a high-profile police search in 2023.
