Individual Arrested, Charged with Hate Crime for Cross Burning in Chicago Park

Suspect Identified and Apprehended

Chicago authorities have apprehended a 21-year-old man in connection with the burning of a cross in Grant Park last week. Merlin Lu was arrested after police released images of a suspect fleeing the scene of the incident.

Charges Filed Following Incident

Mr. Lu now faces a range of charges, including four felony counts and four misdemeanor counts. Among these is a felony hate crime charge, stemming from the event that occurred on June 9. The arrest follows an admission from the individual regarding his involvement in setting fire to the cross.
