Coles Joins England Squad for India T20s
Sussex all-rounder James Coles has received his inaugural call-up to the England T20 squad for the upcoming series against India. The 22-year-old, who has yet to make his international debut, has demonstrated strong form recently, including a career-best 224 not out in a County Championship match against Glamorgan earlier this month.
Coles also had a notable performance in the T20 Blast last season, accumulating 397 runs at an average of 33 and securing 10 wickets with an economy rate of just over nine. His talent was recognized in The Hundred competition this year, where London Spirit acquired him for £390,000.
Squad Leadership and Notable Inclusions/Absences
Harry Brook will captain the England side for the five-match T20 series, despite not being chosen to lead the Test team against New Zealand. Test opener Ben Duckett, who was part of the squad that participated in this year's T20 World Cup semi-final loss to India, has not been included.
Returning to the squad are Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker, and Saqib Mahmood. Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton are unavailable for selection due to injuries.
Selector's Comments and Series Details
Selector Marcus North commented on Coles' inclusion, stating, "James Coles is an exciting addition and has earned his place. We have selected a larger squad to accommodate for the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand is due to conclude, which allows us to be flexible."
The T20 series is scheduled to commence on July 1st at Chester-le-Street, with the final match taking place in Southampton on July 11th. India is expected to feature 15-year-old talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the series.
