Rachel Reeves Signals Acceptance of Potential Cabinet Reshuffle Under Andy Burnham

Reeves Addresses Future Role Amid Leadership Speculation

Rachel Reeves, a prominent figure in the current political landscape, has hinted at her readiness to accept a different cabinet position if Andy Burnham assumes the role of Prime Minister. Her recent statements suggest a shift from previous reports indicating her desire to remain Chancellor, adopting a more reflective tone.

Support for Burnham's Leadership

In an interview with the BBC, Reeves explicitly endorsed Burnham for the top leadership position. When questioned about her absence from Keir Starmer’s resignation speech and her subsequent appearance with Burnham, she refrained from offering a direct explanation. However, she firmly asserted her unwavering loyalty to Starmer throughout his tenure.

Reflecting on Economic Stewardship

Reeves also took the opportunity to highlight her achievements in her current role. She expressed pride in her record, stating, “I know that whoever is prime minister and chancellor in the future will inherit a stronger economy than the one I inherited two years ago.” She emphasized that future cabinet appointments are the prerogative of the incoming Prime Minister. “Those are the choices that the new prime minister, I hope Andy Burnham, will get to make in a few weeks time. I’m not going to pre-empt those. It is his prerogative as prime minister to make those appointments,” she added.
