Investigation Highlights Arrest Patterns
A recent inquiry conducted by the City Reporter, based on an analysis of over 1,200 lawsuits, indicates that federal immigration agents have conducted numerous street arrests in New York and New Jersey. These arrests, spanning a five-month period, appear to have been concentrated in areas with significant Latino populations and predominantly involved individuals from Latin American nations.
Demographic Discrepancies Observed
The investigation revealed that more than 93% of those arrested off the streets in the targeted region who subsequently filed lawsuits were from Latin American countries. This figure stands in contrast to the demographic makeup of the undocumented immigrant population in the area, where Latinos constitute approximately 66%.
The findings suggest a potential disparity in enforcement actions, with a notable concentration of arrests among a specific demographic group within the immigrant community of New York and New Jersey.
