Secretary Rubio to Address Gulf Concerns Over Iran Agreement
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to engage with key Gulf allies on Tuesday and Wednesday. The primary objective of these meetings is to reassure nations like the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain of the United States' unwavering commitment to their security. Furthermore, Rubio aims to clarify that the recently brokered 60-day ceasefire deal with Iran, established last week, will not inadvertently empower Tehran.
Divisions Among Gulf Nations
The ceasefire agreement has reportedly created a rift among Gulf states. Qatar played a significant mediating role in facilitating the accord. However, other countries, including the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain, have expressed considerable apprehension. Their primary concern revolves around the potential for the deal to provide Iran with substantial financial resources, which they fear could be channeled into strengthening its military capabilities.
