Sooryavanshi Achieves Unprecedented Batting Feat
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a rising star in Indian cricket, has broken the record for the fastest half-century in the history of List A 50-over cricket. Playing for India A against Sri Lanka A, Sooryavanshi reached 50 runs in a mere 11 balls, contributing significantly to his team's total of 377-9.
A Remarkable Innings
During his explosive innings, Sooryavanshi ultimately scored 94 runs off just 29 deliveries. His performance included 10 fours and eight sixes. Notably, he faced only one dot ball on his way to his fifty, hitting five fours and five sixes from the remaining 10 balls to achieve the landmark.
This achievement surpasses the previous record in 50-over cricket, which was a 13-ball fifty by Thisara Perera for the Sri Lankan Army in 2021. Internationally, the quickest half-centuries were 16 balls, set by South Africa's AB de Villiers and West Indies' Matthew Forde.
Future International Prospects
Despite this record-breaking performance, Sooryavanshi was not included in India's senior squad for the upcoming one-day international series against England. However, his exceptional talent has been recognized with a spot in India's T20 squad for matches against Ireland and England next month, potentially marking his international debut.
Sooryavanshi's rapid ascent in cricket includes being the leading run-scorer in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL).

Meanwhile, the Indian ODI squad for the series against England might see the return of Virat Kohli, pending a fitness test for a hamstring injury. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also part of the squad. However, batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and all-rounder Hardik Pandya will not be participating.
The cricketing schedule for India includes a T20 match against Ireland on June 26, followed by a five-match T20 series against England commencing on July 1. Three ODIs against England will then begin on July 14.
