Dustin Poirier, a prominent figure in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has acknowledged the need for support after being arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. The 37-year-old, who concluded his distinguished 16-year mixed martial arts (MMA) career last year, was detained by police in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this week and subsequently released on bail.

Police body camera footage of the incident shows an agitated Poirier confronting an officer at an airport, claiming he had been removed from a flight. In the footage, Poirier can be heard threatening the officer and using expletives before asking about the use of a taser. He later became calmer as additional officers arrived to make the arrest. Following his apprehension, Poirier reportedly fist-bumped an officer, commending their actions.
"I'm at the point where I need some help, walking away from fighting hasn't been easy on me and alcohol isn't the answer," Poirier shared in an Instagram statement. "It has ruined my father's life and I will not allow it to ruin mine, my family deserve me at 100%. I'm trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps."

In Georgia, public drunkenness is classified as a misdemeanor, potentially leading to penalties such as up to one year in jail, fines of up to $1,000, or both.
