Consumer Spending Rises in Great Britain
Great Britain's retail sector observed a notable upturn in May, as figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicated a 1.2% rise in sales volumes compared to April. This marks the most substantial monthly growth recorded since January.
Impact of Elevated Temperatures
The ONS report highlighted that unusually warm weather during May contributed significantly to this surge in retail activity. Consumers reportedly increased their purchases of seasonal items, such as electric fans and inflatable paddling pools, to cope with the higher temperatures.
Growth in Online Shopping
In addition to weather-related purchases, the report also noted a considerable increase in online retail transactions, further contributing to the overall positive sales performance for the month.
