New Police Pups Carry Sporting Legacy
West Midlands Police have introduced a new cohort of future police dogs, with the eight Belgian Malinois puppies receiving names inspired by the current England men's World Cup football team. The force announced the unique naming convention as a way to join in the national excitement surrounding the tournament.

The litter, born last month, includes pups named Jude, Nico, Declan, Saka, Ezri, and Jordan. Notably, Aston Villa player Morgan Rogers received a double tribute, with two puppies named Morgan and Rogers. These names reflect the police unit's aspiration for the dogs to develop into formidable crime-fighters, much like their namesakes on the football pitch.
"We want our police dogs to be committed, courageous and to show off their abilities, which is something we all hope the England players will be able to do this summer," stated Inspector Rachel Crump, head of the police dog unit. "Our new pups have big reputations to live up to, but we're confident they will progress to become stars themselves in fighting crime and keeping the public safe."
The puppies are currently part of a specialized development program located in Balsall Common. It is anticipated that these canines will achieve full operational status within the next 18 months, at which point they will be ready to contribute to public safety and crime prevention efforts.
The initiative aims to harness the positive energy surrounding the World Cup, with the police unit playfully suggesting the puppies are pursuing the "ulti-mutt dream of becoming champions" in their future roles.
