Ethics Inquiry Finds No Breach by Green Party Co-Leader
Zack Polanski, co-leader of the Green Party, has been cleared of any wrongdoing following an ethics investigation into claims that he failed to pay council tax while residing on a houseboat. The inquiry, initiated after complaints from both Labour and Conservative parties, centered on whether Polanski had violated the London Assembly's code of conduct.
Investigation Scope and Outcome
A report issued by the Greater London Authority’s monitoring officer determined that the specific details of Polanski’s living situation were beyond the scope of the established ethical guidelines for London Assembly members. Consequently, the report concluded that Polanski had not breached the code of conduct.
The monitoring officer's report stated that 'the circumstances of the Green party leader’s living arrangements were beyond its scope and he had therefore not breached the code of conduct for London assembly members.'
The decision signifies that the allegations, which suggested a breach of ethical standards related to the non-payment of tax, could not be substantiated within the framework of the assembly's rules.
